About Corangamite Shire:

Located in the picturesque Corangamite Shire, just two hours southwest of Melbourne, our organisation spans approximately 4,600 square kilometres of stunning landscapes. From the breathtaking limestone cliffs at Port Campbell and Princetown to the historic town of Skipton near Ballarat, our region offers a rich tapestry of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Our eastern boundary is embraced by the pristine shores of Lake Corangamite, a vast inland lake nestled just north of the Stony Rises, while our reach extends westward to Terang. The name 'Corangamite' derives from the local Aboriginal word for 'bitter' or 'saltwater,' reflecting the distinctive high salt level of the lake's water, typically three times that of seawater.

We now have multiple exciting opportunities available for Municipal Emergency Management Officers to join the Council on a full-time basis. Join us today and build a lasting impact by building a united and well-prepared community!

Note: Both roles are full-time, with one available on a permanent basis, and the other available on a 24-month fixed term contract with opportunity to extend subject to funding.

How You’ll Make a Difference:

Join us as the Municipal Emergency Officer for Corangamite Shire Council and play a pivotal role in shaping the safety and resilience of our community. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our preparedness and response to emergencies, instilling a sense of empowerment through community education, and contributing to the strategic planning that guides our path towards a secure future.

You will also have the opportunity to leverage your community engagement skills to facilitate training programs and develop procedures for community and council members alike, ensuring a comprehensive response plan is in place in case of emergencies. In the event that an emergency response is needed, you will then act on developed plans accordingly to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved. Your role will be crucial in leading the execution of the response plan, managing resources efficiently, and adapting to the dynamic nature of emergencies to minimise potential risks and ensure a successful outcome.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the development, delivery, and review of municipal emergency plans in partnership with relevant stakeholders
  • Developing and supporting community-led planning across the municipality to build community capacity, resilience and preparedness for emergencies
  • Building and developing partnerships with external partner agencies and key stakeholders to support the coordinated delivery of Council’s emergency management functions
  • Ensuring effective processes are developed and maintained to support the implementation of Council’s emergency prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery
